x23_no_moreLaura's trip to Canada had been cut short by a phone call from her sister. Since leaving Madripoor, she and Gabby had been cutting a bloody path up the pirating chain of command, going from one shot-caller to the next and rescuing as many children as they could and now they'd found the head of the operation. They'd been searching or him for weeks, hunting for the man named Yvgeny, the man behind it all.
And they'd found him and the last of his crew in Gotham. With another shipment, ready to go.
So she returned home and Gabby and Laura packed and now? Now they were back in Gotham, watching Yvgeny's men from the roof of an abandoned building across the street.
Gabby was pulling on bullet-proof padding that had hearts and flowers across the chest. Of course it did. Violent as Gabby could be, with everything she was taught to do, she still maintained a sense of innocence. A love of cute bunnies and a broken wolverine named Jonathan.
So Laura never said anything about the bright pink patches that clashed with the deep black armor her smaller sister wore.
And Laura was already dressed in her own padded armor, a domino mask across her face with a red glow emitting from the eyes.
"Are you going to call your friend?"
There was silence from Laura as she turned her head to look at Gabby, briefly confused before replying with one word.
"Digger." A pause, two more words following "Captain Boomerang."
And an eager nod and a grin from the small girl with the scars on her face. "We've both read his file. We know what he's capable of. He'll be useful."
"He's a criminal."
"So? He can help us get in there. We can make this an even shorter mission than usual and be at the theater in time to catch a midnight showing of Beauty and the Beast!"
"You're not going to leave me alone until I call, are you?"
"If you don't, I will."
Laura didn't have to test the air to know Gabby meant it and despite the severity of her misgivings and her concern that Digger doesn't heal and this will get very violent, she digs her phone out of her pocket. If only to shut Gabby up. He probably won't even show and that was fine by Laura.
Whether it's the voicemail or Digger himself that picks up, her first words to him (or the recording) are a location, followed by "Have you ever heard of a man named Yvgeny? He's a pirate. He's been kidnapping children and shipping them to God knows where."
